The largest global industrial wood pellet supplier filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Wednesday, announcing its intention to cut about $1 billion of debt by restructuring agreements with creditors, including those who have invested heavily in new facilities. (AP) — Federal wildlife officials announced Wednesday they will consider adding 10 new species to the Endangered Species Act, including a big bumble bee that serves as a key pollinator across the United States. Fish and Wildlife Service officials said they had completed 90-day reviews of petitions to add the species to the list and determined that listing may be warranted. A deadly tornado ripped through Mississippi and Alabama Friday, killing at least 26 people. As the storm neared the small city of Amory, Mississippi, a local weatherman prayed for residents' safety. He prayed for the residents of Amory, Mississippi — pleading on air for people to stay safe just minutes before the tornado reached them. Amory is a small town of about 6,500 in northeastern Mississippi situated between Birmingham, Alabama, and Memphis, Tennessee. A tornado struck New Iberia, Louisiana, on Wednesday, briefly trapping people in their homes, police and the National Weather Service Lake Charles said. The National Weather Service confirmed tornadoes had hit the ground in Mississippi on Tuesday, while tornadoes were also confirmed by radar in Alabama, NWS Birmingham said. A number of areas reported damage to homes and neighborhoods, while the Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana confirmed that at least two people were injured in connection with severe weather. A line of strong to severe thunderstorms was expected to quickly move southeastward across southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and central/southern Georgia through midday Wednesday, it said. Forecasters had previously warned that heavy rain and hail the size of tennis balls were possible in the severe weather expected to continue into Wednesday.
